About the position
The Research Assistant will support the national studies "MindCare" and "MindCare4Women," funded by MRFF and The Department of Health and Ageing. These studies focus on reducing dementia risk in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
This particular candidate will work specifically with sub-Saharan African communities.
This exciting role will be assisting the Principal Investigator and Project Manager with a variety of tasks, such as preparing ethics amendments and governance documents, supporting literature reviews, organising co-design workshops, aiding recruitment efforts, translating materials into Arabic for the Sub-Saharan communities, and collecting both qualitative and quantitative data.
An understanding of Sub-Saharan cultures is essential; therefore, candidates with a Sub-Saharan background is preference.
Skills and Experience
Support Research Activities:
Assist with ethics applications, stakeholder coordination, participant recruitment, data collection, and reporting to ensure smooth project progress.
Literature Reviews:
Contribute to literature searches, screening, and the preparation of academic reviews, including scoping and systematic reviews.
Engage with CALD Communities:
Support the recruitment and engagement of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community members for research studies.
This particular candidate will work specifically with sub-Saharan African communities.
Coordinate Workshops and Forums:
Organise and facilitate co-design workshops, surveys, interviews, and stakeholder forums to gather insights and feedback.
Prepare Research Outputs:
Contribute to the development of publications, conference presentations, and other forms of research communication.
To be considered for this position, you will have;
Education:
A bachelor's degree in health sciences, with evidence of further study relevant to the field.
Cultural knowledge and community engagement:
We are seeking a candidate with strong knowledge of, and connections to, sub-Saharan African communities. The role requires a demonstrated understanding of the cultural norms, values, and practices of these communities to support meaningful engagement and collaboration.
Language:
Fluent in both written and spoken Arabic, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. We may consider candidates who are fluent in Swahili.
Research Experience:
Demonstrated experience in research activities, including ethics applications, stakeholder coordination, participant recruitment, data collection, and reporting.
Research Communication:
Strong writing and communication skills, with experience contributing to scientific reports, publications, or conference presentations.
