AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we are looking for talented people who want to help.
You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate across AWS to deliver high standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. The Data Center Logistics Manager role requires analytical strength, attention to detail, open communication, and the ability to work autonomously. The Logistics Manager partners with Infrastructure teams and a wide array of Amazon stakeholders to manage communication, team metrics, and team‐specific deliverables or milestones.
The role demands a strong sense of urgency, sound judgement, and the ability to make decisions that streamline activities within the organization. A key aspect of the role is the successful development and coaching of team members, evangelising accountability and creating a culture of responsibility throughout the organization. Logistics Managers influence others, build consensus, set vision and direction, and proactively mitigate risks.
Key job responsibilities
* Leading a team of Logistics specialists responsible for day‐to‐day logistics operations.
* Ensuring the team operates with AWS principles of Safety, Security, and High Availability.
* Coaching, mentoring, and developing Logistics team members.
* Participating in cluster‐wide leadership activities, including projects, employee engagement, community engagement, and strategic planning.
* Accountable for stock management, reporting, and process improvements.
* Ensuring stock levels are optimally maintained.
* Maintaining efficient processes to minimize disruption to customer workflows.
* Managing efficient and high‐quality receiving of incoming deliveries of parts for distribution to data centers.
* Processing server parts and consumables.
* Overseeing outgoing deliveries for transfer of parts and consumables (PPE, tools, batteries, etc.).
* Handling return material authorization (RMA) and managing returns of failed parts to vendors.
* Managing warranty returns.
* Managing on‐hand inventory within each data center needed for break‐fix repairs.
* Daily auditing and cycle counting.
* Ensuring all 7S storage standards are met.
* Maintaining the highest level of inventory accuracy.
* Delivering and collecting spare stock.
* Transporting parts between warehouses and data centers.
* Coordinating removal of waste and used equipment from AWS premises and engaging with removal or recycling companies.
* Procuring packaging materials and packaging equipment before final removal from the data center.
* Working with local AWS Environmental teams for region‐specific requirements.
Basic Qualifications
* 5+ years of supply chain operations and logistics experience.
* Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the Melbourne metro area and surrounding suburbs.
* 5+ years of people management leading teams of 5 to 20 people.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience conducting sophisticated and creative analysis of complex data and translating results into actionable deliverables, messages, and presentations.
* Experience with process improvement techniques such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma.
* Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
* Understanding of data center industry concepts, technologies, issues, and challenges.
