Communities is a nationally recognised Accredited Carer Friendly Employer through the Carers + Employers program. The program defines best practice standards by creating a carer friendly workplace, enabling staff to balance work and care, while continuing to contribute to the wellbeing of individuals, families and the community.
If you are passionate about working with vulnerable infants (0-4 years) and supporting them to thrive then this role is for you
In this role you will work with a highly motivated and skilled multidisciplinary team to address complex developmental support needs of young children experiencing developmental delay; behavioural, social and emotional challenges; speech, language and communication difficulties, and other developmental concerns.
You will operate in a trauma-informed model of care whilst providing early, targeted assessment services and providing or facilitating timely access to appropriate interventions. As a key worker you will lead a holistic approach to support children's development and will network with the sector to achieve best outcomes.
You will also provide education to adults to increase capacity within care systems to address developmental support needs of children. This is a very rewarding role in which the services you provide will significantly improve life outcomes for children who have experienced disadvantage very early in life.
The Team
Integrated Therapy Services is a multidisciplinary, specialist service designed to promote the health and wellbeing of young children with a history of developmental trauma experiences.
The service provides coordinated, evidence-based prevention, early detection and early intervention services to support children's recovery and development. The team is situated in supportive child protection district office environments and collaborates with child safety practitioners, as well as other specialist staff including Aboriginal Practice Leaders and Education Officers. Supervision, training opportunities and professional development support are available to team staff.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Speech Pathologist you will use high-level expertise in working with young children who have speech and language delays or disorders that may be associated with early life adversity and/or a range of neurodevelopmental issues.
Your day to day may involve:
* Collaborating with multidisciplinary staff to facilitate coordinated and holistic approaches to service provision.
* Developing protocols that are suited to child protection in assessing a child's development and communication abilities.
* Coordinating and delivering speech therapy screening, comprehensive and targeted developmental assessments and interventions with carers, families, early childhood workers, and children aged 0-4 years.
* Developing, delivering and evaluating group interventions to support children and/or carers in areas of child development such as speech and language development and mealtimes.
