What will you do?
We are looking for passionate Merchandise Planners with Apparel and/or Soft Home experience to join a fast-paced, dynamic environment to drive our strategy and grow our Apparel functions. You are responsible for maximizing sales and profit through effective management of the department range architecture and product assortment, and for ensuring that the commercial plan is executed to deliver the department strategy.
You will be accountable for inventory health and balancing customer-facing availability with stock productivity.
You will work collaboratively with key stakeholders to develop strategies and processes to drive sales and profitability in line with Target’s values. This is a pivotal role where you can impact stores and the wider merchandise team through superior planning of our inventory.
Strong experience in price architecture and product assortment in a large-volume retailer is essential.
Other responsibilities
- Range Planning: Build a product range that meets customer needs and business goals.
- Trend Analysis: Incorporate market trends and customer feedback into range planning.
- Private Label Strategy: Develop strategies to manage private label products.
- Supplier Relationships: Work with suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery of private label products.
- Pricing Strategy: Develop and implement pricing strategies for different product categories.
- Management of supplier range plans to align with Target strategy.
- Support the Buyer to develop the category strategy by managing the category budget and forecast; allocate strategies to meet store inventory needs and guide the inventory controller and Demand Planner.
- Ensure KPI deliverables (Sales, Profit, OTB, inventory) are managed within parameters.
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have at least 5+ years of planning experience and manage multi-million-dollar portfolios in a large-scale retail environment, with a tertiary qualification in Finance, Operations or Business (advantageous). Experience leading a small to medium-sized team is essential, as is the ability to plan, implement and lead a merchandise strategy and work cross-functionally to achieve objectives in a fast-changing market.
We seek a commercially savvy individual with a curious, data-driven mindset and a passion for Retail. You should focus on product, keep customers front of mind, and excel at building and managing stakeholder relationships.
Experience and qualifications
- Strong commercial acumen and numerical skills with attention to detail; advanced planning skills including forecasting, OTB, financial skills, and strategic thinking.
- Ability to observe and interpret trends in customer behavior.
- Self-driven with strong organizational skills in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Experience qualifying product plans and re-plans, budgets, and performance analysis.
- Strong in range architecture and product assortment.
- Ability to articulate observations and actions with persuasiveness.
- Proficiency with BI tools, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience using merchandise planning software (e.g., enterprise planning/Blue Yonder/JDA, SAP, Oracle).
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Business, Commerce or Retail-related degree.
- Planning experience across apparel categories is advantageous.
