Overview
Our client is a Canberra based Federal Government Agency. They are currently seeking a senior, hands-on ICT Network Architect / Engineer to join their team.
The Network Architect will work under the direction of the Director, Broadcasting Technology and Projects or an appointed representative and will undertake a variety of activities including but not limited to the following.
* Design an IP based network in a broadcast environment and provide a Bill of Materials for the hardware required.
* Test and configure the IP based network control/management layer, including cyber resilience.
* Undertake and lead discovery to provide an assessment of the current network environment, and explore the potential for a greenfield network.
* Provide network advice as required on upcoming projects.
* Work in consultation with other subject matter experts (SMEs) within Broadcasting Operations, Infrastructure Support, Network Operations, Data Centre, Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture Group and Project teams.
Key duties and responsibilities will include:
* Current‑state assessment of network topology, segmentation and management isolation; deliver remediation plan and target architecture.
* Design and implement a future-state topology based on a spine‑leaf fabric pattern with redundant main / backup paths; produce HLD / LLD documentation.
* Stand up a unified management layer (naming, addressing, RBAC / AAA, configuration standards) across isolated systems.
* Integration of a management/control layer for policy, operations and assurance.
* Engineer VLAN / ACL / VRF segmentation separating management and media networks; implement domain segregation as required.
* Implement monitoring and alerting integrations (API/SNMP) with software such as SolarWinds / Splunk; define dashboards and runbooks.
* Conduct lab and production failover testing (main / backup), performance validation, and hand over test reports.
* Deliver operations guides and change procedures.
* Other activities as directed
Technical skills
* Degree in Engineering / IT / Computer Science (or equivalent experience) and 5+ years in enterprise networks.
* Deep hands‑on skills with L2 / L3 (OSPF / IS‑IS / BGP), multicast (IGMP, PIM‑SM/SSM), QoS / DiffServ.
* Proven experience designing / operating spine‑leaf fabrics with redundant main / backup paths.
* Understanding of cloud-based architecture.
* Experience with network routing / switching / access.
* Ability to troubleshoot network issues or faults.
* Experience with VPNs for remote access.
* Familiarity with studio / gallery / OB / remote live‑production network considerations (deterministic, low‑latency).
* Familiarity with video and audio over IP protocols.
* Awareness of PTP (IEEE 1588) with SMPTE ST 2059‑2.
* Understanding of SMPTE ST 2110, DANTE and AES-67.
This will be an initial 12 months contract, based in Canberra and will require Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain NV1 clearance.
