**The Role**

As an APS 6 Work Health and Safety Officer, located at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills, you will work with elements of the Explosive Ordnance Maintenance Directorate, Systems Program Offices, and other GWEO Group business units located in the Sydney area, and throughout Australia. You will work around some of the most exciting and complex guided weapons and explosive ordnance products used by the Australian Defence Force.

You will spend your days:

- Responding to WHS related enquiries from workers at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills and HMAS Waterhen.
- Conducting WHS inspections as per the GWEO Group WHS Matrix at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills and HMAS Waterhen.
- Ensuring WHS related documentation is up to date, including policy, Site Safety Management Agreements, Risk Assessments, Work Instructions, and Inductions.
- Maintaining accurate Hazardous Chemical data using ChemAlert
- Conducting investigations of WHS events using the Sentinel platform.
- Disseminating WHS information to workers at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills and HMAS Waterhen.
- Assisting WHS colleagues throughout the GWEO Group with WHS related tasks as required.
- Assisting the WHS Manager with WHS related tasks as required.
- Attending WHS meetings and fora as required.
- Adhoc WHS tasks as required.
- There will be some domestic business travel associated with this position.
- The nature of this role will require the successful applicant to be onsite at least four days per week.

The Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Group Headquarters delivers a broad range of coordination and enabling services to support the Chief of GWEO, GWEO Group executives, divisions, staff, and external stakeholders. The Corporate Performance Directorate focuses on a wide range of corporate and enabling functions to support GWEO Group in meeting its delivery and compliance obligations to Capability Managers, Defence and Whole of Government.

The services include governance and assurance, quality management, risk management, WHS, operating budget management and security and facilities. Our staff are located at HMAS Stirling, HMAS Waterhen, Victoria Barracks Melbourne, Benalla, Defence Estate Orchard Hills, Penrith, RAAF Base Amberley, and in Canberra.
