About this opportunity

As a Space Planner, you will play a purposeful role in shaping how the University's teaching, research and administrative environment's function and evolve. Working within the Campus Planning team in the Property and Facilities Division, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the University to translate strategic and operational needs into practical, evidence-based spatial planning solutions. This role supports both long-term strategic initiatives—including the Space Strategy 2026–2032—and a diverse range of day‐to‐day space requests, relocations and planning projects across UQ's extensive and award‐winning estate.

Key responsibilities include:

* Responding to space requests from University stakeholders, providing options and advice to optimise space utilisation.
* Preparing space planning layouts, test‐fits and configuration options that align with University space policy guidelines and statutory requirements.
* Analysing spatial requirements, utilisation data and constraints to develop planning scenarios, reports and recommendations.
* Contributing to space reconfigurations and relocations, including staging and decant strategies, and supporting continuous improvement of space planning processes and tools.

About you

You are an inquisitive and analytical professional who enjoys working with buildings, people and data to solve complex spatial challenges. You communicate clearly, manage competing priorities with confidence, and value collaboration and service excellence.

Qualifications and experience

* A tertiary qualification with at least four years subsequent experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education or training, in architecture, interior design, facilities planning or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated ability to analyse spatial requirements and develop practical, well‐reasoned planning solutions.
* Experience preparing space planning layouts or spatial diagrams using CAD, BIM or similar design software.
* Highly developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and respond to diverse stakeholder needs.
* Strong problem‐solving and analytical skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
* Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of service.
* Experience working with data, reports or spatial information to support planning and decision‐making.
* Experience using relevant software packages including Microsoft Office, Autodesk products, Adobe Creative Suite and integrated facilities management platforms such as Archibus or similar.
* Experience with staff supervision, mentoring and performance management, or readiness to step into a supervisory role as required.

What we can offer

* Access to flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working options and flexible start and finish times.
* Up to 26 weeks paid parental leave or 14 weeks paid primary caregiver leave.
* 17.5% annual leave loading.
* Generous superannuation contributions.
* Health and wellbeing benefits including Fitness Passport, flu vaccinations and an Employee Assistance Program.
* Professional development opportunities, including UQ Study for Staff.
* Modern, purpose‐designed offices and affordable on‐campus parking.
