An exciting opportunity is available for a skilled and analytical professional to contribute to complex assessment and decision‐making work in a regulatory environment. This role is suited to someone with strong legal or human services expertise who can interpret legislation, assess risk, prepare high-quality written recommendations, and provide clear advice to a range of stakeholders.
About the role
In this role, you will assess complex applications and provide legal and procedural advice to internal and external stakeholders in relation to legislative screening requirements. You will conduct detailed risk assessments, analyse complex information, prepare written recommendations regarding eligibility and decision‐making outcomes, and manage matters efficiently from commencement to finalisation. The role requires close collaboration across teams and with external stakeholders, along with a strong ability to exercise sound judgement in a high-volume and sensitive environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Assessing complex applications by reviewing file material, identifying gaps in evidence, requesting further information, and conducting detailed analysis to support recommendations;
* Applying legislative knowledge and sound professional judgement to undertake risk assessments and determine appropriate decision‐making outcomes;
* Obtaining, documenting, and evaluating oral submissions and other relevant information as part of the assessment process;
* Preparing high-quality correspondence, written recommendations, and other documentation for internal and external stakeholders;
* Case managing matters to ensure appropriate prioritisation, efficient progression, and timely finalisation; and
* Providing legislative and procedural advice, responding to enquiries, and maintaining current knowledge of relevant legislation and operational requirements.

* Experience or expertise in areas such as administrative law, criminal law, child protection, domestic and family violence, mental health, social work, or drug and alcohol matters will be highly regarded.
Mandatory requirements
* To be eligible for this position, you must hold a university degree from a recognised tertiary institution in one of the following disciplines: law; social work; human services or social welfare; or psychology or behavioural science.
* You must demonstrate capability to undertake complex assessments, interpret legislation, and prepare high-quality written advice and recommendations.
* You must be able to work effectively with internal stakeholders across a department and with external government entities.
