Responsibilities

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is the independent statutory agency responsible for implementing the world-leading National Disability Insurance Scheme, supporting more than 760,000 Australians with permanent and significant disability. After more than a decade of operation, the NDIS is entering a major period of change, with a substantial reform agenda to improve participant experience, strengthen integrity and ensure long-term financial sustainability.

The opportunity: As General Manager, Strategic Communications, you will drive change to embed a proactive, positive,-level approach to communications at the NDIA, integrating strategic communications into broader policy, service design and delivery processes – for participants, providers, the Agency and across governments.

This senior executive leadership role has substantial Agency and sector-wide influence. You will shape the strategic narrative for the NDIA and the NDIS, acting as a trusted adviser to the Chief Executive Officer and NDIA's Executive Leadership Team on reputation, risk and public confidence. You will lead a large, multidisciplinary team with national reach, spanning media, digital channels, marketing and corporate communications. Working in close collaboration with leaders across the NDIA and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, you will shape the strategic narrative, to ensure that the NDIA's actions, decisions and reforms are anticipated, understood, and credibly and accessibly communicated. You will help strengthen communications literacy and confidence within your team and across the NDIA, enabling consistent, high-quality engagement with staff and stakeholders across the disability sector, government and the broader Australian community.

The ideal candidate: You are an accomplished senior executive leader with deep strategic experience and the judgement to operate at the highest levels of government and under intense scrutiny. You bring a strong track record of advising senior leaders in complex, high-profile environments and proven experience in leading reform, shaping strategic narrative, and proactively managing risk. As a leader, you model integrity and resilience, and drive transformational and positive capability and culture change. You are curious and reflective, with a highly collaborative approach and a commitment to stewarding trust in this high impact national agency.
