Overview
The role will assist the Senior Legal Counsel in Australia and broader members of the legal department to achieve our core function of enabling sustainable growth by managing legal risk. Overview
The role will assist the Senior Legal Counsel in Australia and broader members of the legal department to achieve our core function of enabling sustainable growth by managing legal risk. The role includes a wide variety of work including negotiating client contracts and providing clear and commercial advice on legal issues.
This role will support the Corporate Markets division across both APAC and EMEA jurisdictions and a number of business areas including Registry and Employee Share Plans, Funds, Investor Relations and Communications for both listed and unlisted corporates.
Key responsibilities will include:
Operational Management
* Manage and deliver on negotiations, drafts, and reviews of commercial contracts with listed and unlisted clients and vendors.
* Develop and improve legal processes, such as maintaining templates and harnessing legal tech tools to drive efficiencies.
* Advise business leaders on legal risks and issues impacting the business.
* Maintain statutory, legal and regulatory skill sets so that appropriate advice can be given to all parts of the business.
* Provide legal support for transactions, corporate restructurings, regulatory and governance matters.
* Support business requirements in proactive and pre-emptive manner.
* Support to deliver solutions on ah-hoc legal issues that arise with support from the Senior Legal Counsel.
* Work closely with global counterparts to develop and adhere to global standards, ensuring consistency and alignment across MPMS’s global operations.
* Building stakeholder relationships and providing training to business units on an as needed basis.
Governance & Risk
* Creating and improving legal processes, such as maintaining templates and harnessing legal tech tools to drive efficiencies.
* Managing internal processes and ensuring proper stakeholder engagement and good governance throughout contract lifecycle.
* Understand and implement our company compliance frameworks (such as our Contracts Policy and Delegations of Authority);

What you'll bring:
* Qualified Australian solicitor with 4-6 years PQE experience either in private practice or in-house and strong legal training
* Demonstrated experience working within the financial service sector or superannuation industry will be favourably considered
* Qualified Australian solicitor with current practicing certificate
* Willing to learn on the job and broaden their experience to respond to any legal issues that arise with support from the Senior Legal Counsel.
* Proactive and pre-emptive advice rather than reactive.
* Commercial outlook and pragmatic approach to legal practice.
* Funds experience is preferred but not essential.
* Demonstrated experience in contract drafting and negotiating corporate/commercial agreements beneficial.
* Ability to work in a team and autonomously to achieve team goals.
* Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and managing a workload comprising multiple wide-ranging matters and conflicting deadlines.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to adapt communication style to a variety of stakeholders across the business and confidence to give training to different parts of the business on legal matters and process.
