The successful applicant can expect to work day, evening and some weekend shifts as required. The Clinical Assistant staff report directly to the Supervising Scientist of Core Chemistry.
Your key responsibilities
You will be required to fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with the Queensland Public Service values.
- Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory.
- To work with independence and professionalism, and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills, commensurate with level of experience.
- Participate in quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care and client
- Develop a sound knowledge laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification.
- Be prepared to engage flexibility in the scientific, technical and IT aspects of the position to help maintain Pathology Queensland as the preferred provider of Pathology Services for Queensland.

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- This is a high volume laboratory with a positive culture and a high performing team, so qualities of resilience, well-developed communication skills and ability to contribute positively to a team environment are essential.
- Experience in or the ability to rapidly learn pathology pre-analytical processes, e.g., sorting, coding, data entry, aliquoting, storage, retrieval of specimens in a large and complex core laboratory unit.
- Proven ability to solve problems and show initiative in the workplace.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively in a highly process driven environment with competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to focus in a busy, complex environment.
- Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Nil mandatory qualifications are required for this role although a Certificate III Pathology (or similar) or ability to gain this qualification is desirable.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
