Legal Aid NSW delivers accessible legal services across criminal, family and civil law. We provide advice, court representation, and family dispute resolution through 28 offices and phone-based support, helping people navigate the legal system with confidence and fairness.

About The Role

As a Financial Accountant at Legal Aid NSW, you'll play a pivotal role in strengthening the organisation's financial operations and supporting its mission to deliver vital legal services to the community. This is a dynamic position where your expertise will drive process improvements, ensure the integrity of financial systems, and guide a dedicated team through change and growth.

You'll lead finance‐related projects that enhance business practices, oversee end‐to‐end Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, and manage key processes such as debt recovery, banking, and trust account compliance. Your work will directly contribute to the efficiency, transparency and reliability of Legal Aid NSW's financial operations.

In This Role, You Will
* Lead and deliver finance improvement projects that strengthen business practices and operational performance
* Oversee AP/AR operations, ensuring accurate, timely payments, receipting and high‐quality service delivery
* Manage debt recovery, banking processes, and the Legal Aid NSW Trust Account in line with legislative requirements
* Develop, review and maintain AP/AR policies, procedures and reporting to support best‐practice financial governance
* Support, mentor and guide staff through performance development, capability building and organisational change
About You

You're a skilled finance professional who brings a strong understanding of AP/AR operations, a commitment to accuracy and a natural drive to improve how things work. You enjoy taking ownership of processes, strengthening financial controls and finding smarter, more efficient ways of doing things. Leading and developing people is something you value, and you're confident guiding a team through change while maintaining high standards of service and performance.

You communicate clearly, build constructive relationships and stay across evolving accounting requirements. You Must The essential requirements for this role
* Be willing to undertake a Criminal Record Check
* Hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
* Possess a relevant degree majoring in Accounting or equivalent
