Metroll is a leading Australian manufacturer and supplier of quality steel building products. Our Sydney and Canberra operations across Minto, Queanbeyan and Smithfield play a critical role in servicing customers with roofing, cladding, rainwater goods, light gauge structural products and related building solutions.
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute General Manager to lead these businesses. Based primarily at Minto, this role holds full accountability for the sales, operational, commercial and safety performance across all three sites, ensuring sustainable growth, operational excellence and strong customer outcomes. Travel to Queanbeyan will be required approximately once or twice per month.
Reporting to the State Manager, you will provide clear leadership across manufacturing, sales, distribution and administration functions while embedding a high-performance, safety-first culture across the region.
The Role
As General Manager, you will lead the end-to-end performance of Metroll's Sydney and Canberra operations (Minto, Queanbeyan and Smithfield). This is a hands‐on executive leadership role requiring both strategic direction and active operational oversight across multiple locations.
You will be responsible for financial performance, operational efficiency, customer engagement, and long-term capability development of the teams across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
* Set and execute multi-site strategy, budgets, forecasts and performance plans
* Drive profitability, margin improvement and cost discipline across all locations
* Ensure safe, compliant and efficient manufacturing and distribution operations
* Provide leadership across sales, customer service, operations and HSE
* Build and maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships
* Maintain robust governance, risk management and financial controls
* Lead, develop and hold accountable leaders and team members
* Embed a safety-first, high-performance culture across the region
* Champion continuous improvement and operational optimisation initiatives
* Be deeply involved in growth projects and cross-site capability development
About You
* Extensive senior leadership experience within building products, manufacturing or industrial operations
* Proven capability leading manufacturing and/or distribution operations with full P&L accountability
* Strong commercial acumen with deep financial and strategic understanding
* Confident, visible and hands‐on leader
* Demonstrated experience engaging with customers and key stakeholders
* Comfortable managing geographically dispersed teams
Highly Regarded
* Background in building or construction materials
* Strong B2B, relationship‐led sales exposure
* Tertiary qualifications in Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related discipline
