The role
Role Overview

The AWS Region Services team combines AWS global cloud leadership with Australian security expertise to deliver highly secure, scalable environments for sensitive workloads. The Engineering organization within Region Services is structured across core capability pillars: Compute & Machine Learning, Security Identity & Compliance, Storage & Databases, and a growing capability domain. This role allows you to make a lasting impact on Australia's digital future by working with AWS services, implementing innovative solutions, and helping customers succeed in their most important missions.

A Day in the Life

You'll own services end‐to‐end in one of the fastest‐growing cloud environments in the world, defining how they're built, building them with care, operating them with pride, and running them with the reliability that the security community demands. You'll solve unique, first‐order challenges in massive‐scale domains such as compute services, DynamoDB/NoSQL databases, Glacier, and S3 data lakes. You'll also build and influence the tools and utilities that are part of the AWS fleet running our internal services, contributing ideas and code that improve the experience for every engineer who follows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define, build, own, and run services in high growth environments
  • Solve unique and first‐order problems in massive‐scale areas such as compute services, DynamoDB/NoSQL databases, Glacier, S3 data lakes and many other AWS services
  • Learn how to build and operate distributed systems at massive scale
  • Build and influence the tools and utilities that are part of the AWS fleet running our internal services
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in Linux systems administration and/or development
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, or experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting and an experience managing full application stacks from the OS up through custom applications
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (bash, python, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Experience in systems administration, network administration, AWS cloud app development, DevOps or site reliability engineering
  • Experience with cloud native technologies
