The Role
As an APS 6 Quality Assurance Officer, you will join the Directorate of Risk and Assurance—a team that champions governance, accountability, and continuous improvement across Security and Estate Group.
In this position, you will be at the heart of our Internal Reviews function, delivering risk-based, data-driven insights that strengthen internal controls, manage risk, and support strategic objectives. Your work will help shape decisions that matter.
Working in a close-knit team, you will collaborate with the Assistant Director to build and maintain strategic relationships, provide expert advice, and oversee high-profile assurance activities. You will also play a key role in refining policies and procedures that underpin our assurance framework.
This is a permanent opportunity available for immediate filling, based on-site at Campbell Park, ACT. It is ideal for a substantive APS 6 or a high-performing APS 5 ready to take the next step in their career.

The Directorate of Risk and Assurance is in the Program Management and Governance Branch within Service Delivery Division. The Branch provides central oversight and governance for Security and Estate Group (SEG).The Directorate is a small team leading the way in risk management and assurance, ensuring that SEG products and services are compliant, effective, and deliver value for money. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture of integrity and where your contributions will make a tangible difference. Internal reviews are a key component of SEGs assurance framework to support senior decision-makers across the organisation to assure their business functions to ensure continuous improvement.

We are seeking a motivated and high performing Assurance Officer who exemplifies professionalism through external ideas, diverse experience and enjoys working on a broad range of tasks. Our ideal candidate will:
* Have knowledge of and compliance with relevant legislation and policy frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements
* Ability to analyse complex information, identify trends and assess risks
* Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels and prepare reports
* Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and work well within a small team
* Ability to manage assurance activities independently
* Ability to identify and resolve issues related to assurance activities and implement improvements to assurance processes and practices
* Be a team player.

Security Clearance
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Baseline Vetting” level.
