Pioneer Catchment & Landcare Group Inc. – Mackay QLD
As part of Pioneer Catchment Landcare's dynamic and passionate team, the Senior Landcare Officer will play a central role in leading the delivery of environmental restoration, habitat conservation, and landholder support activities across our diverse catchment – from coastal dunes and wetlands to grazing landscapes, creeks, rainforests, and the highlands.
?? Project Delivery & Team Leadership
Coordinate and deliver on-ground works across bushland, riparian, wetland, coastal, and agricultural landscapes in line with project work plans and ecological best practice.
Supervise and mentor a small team of Field Officers and casual staff, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality implementation of restoration and conservation activities.
A minimum of 2-3 years of team leadership or supervisory experience is required.
Plan and prioritise daily tasks and resourcing (equipment, vehicles, materials) to meet project milestones.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of new field staff and volunteers.
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in environmental restoration or conservation field work is required.
??? Technical & Safety Compliance
Develop and implement Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and Risk Assessments tailored to each project site.
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of PCL's tools, machinery, and vehicles, ensuring all plant and equipment are safe and operational.
Maintain accurate records of pesticide and herbicide usage in accordance with PCL's compliance systems and Queensland chemical regulations.
Deliver field-based training on equipment use, revegetation methods, weed ID and control, and monitoring techniques.
?? Landholder & Stakeholder Engagement
Undertake property visits and assessments in support of Land for Wildlife, Junior Landcare, or other capacity-building programs.
Liaise with landholders, Traditional Owners, corporate partners, local schools, and community groups to ensure collaborative project delivery.
Assist with the facilitation of community planting days, educational workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
?? Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation
Conduct site monitoring using digital tools (e.g., Fulcrum, Survey123, iNaturalist) and contribute to biodiversity, weed, and erosion assessments.
Maintain accurate field records, photo points, check sheets, and progress reports for internal and external reporting requirements.
Contribute to social media content, event displays, and written case studies to showcase project impact.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Certificate III or IV in Conservation & Ecosystem Management, Environmental Management, Horticulture, Agriculture, or similar.
Experience delivering restoration or land management projects on time and within budget.
Strong plant identification skills, particularly local native species, priority habitat plants, and regionally significant weed species.
Accreditation under the Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Act (ACDC), or willingness to obtain.
Experience operating small plant and equipment such as brushcutters, chainsaws, spray units, augers, and other field-based tools.
Experience in fauna handling, wildlife spotting, ecological monitoring, drone surveys, or environmental assessments.
Experience coordinating community events, volunteer programs, or educational sessions.
First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Competency using digital field tools (Fulcrum, Survey123, iNaturalist, GIS mapping programs, MS Office).
A demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental care, and professional conduct in field environments.
