This is a fixed term twelve (12) month, full-time position commencing ASAP with possible extension and/or permanency
The Financial Planning and Resourcing Directorate leads corporate budget management and resource planning, cost and demand modelling, management reporting and the annual budget process. The Directorate provides high-level financial advice to senior leadership and supports whole-of-government financial initiatives through collaboration across the Department.
The Role
The Principal Financial Analyst delivers high-level financial analysis and strategic advice to support the Department's budget, resourcing and financial planning decisions. You will undertake complex data analysis and modelling to inform budget development, refinement and forecasting, identify emerging trends, risks and opportunities, and translate complex information into clear, actionable insights for senior leaders.
In this role, you will work closely with stakeholders across the Department to support sound decision-making and improve budget discipline and transparency. You will contribute to key budget initiatives, reporting tools and governance processes, prepare high-quality briefing material and responses for executive, ministerial and parliamentary requests, and support continuous improvement in analysis methods, reporting quality and data integrity.

Eligibility
To work in this role, you must:
* hold relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance or related field, or substantial equivalent experience
* be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
