About the role
We have an opportunity for a Senior Network Engineer to be part of our Network and Security Platform Services, Technology and Communication Command. This role provides high-level network engineering support for a diverse range of data and communications network infrastructure, including core networks, and remote site connectivity. This involves overseeing the installation, monitoring, and maintenance of NSWPF network and performance.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our application delivery environment. As a highly experienced Senior Network Engineer, the successful candidate will lead the support and enhancement of our F5 infrastructure. They will bring deep expertise in F5 technologies, including BIG-IP modules (LTM, GTM, ASM, APM), and will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient network solutions.
In addition to F5 expertise, the role requires strong experience in Cisco network switching and routing, with a solid understanding of enterprise network architecture and protocols. The Senior Network Engineer will also play a key role in troubleshooting complex issues, optimising traffic flows, and contributing to strategic initiatives that improve service delivery and operational efficiency. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that demands strong problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
* Design, deploy, and manage F5 BIG-IP infrastructure across production and non-production environments.
* Provide advanced troubleshooting and support for F5-related issues, including load balancing, SSL offloading, traffic management, and application security.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate F5 solutions with enterprise applications and services.
* Maintain and optimise F5 configurations, iRules, and policies to meet performance and security requirements.
* Monitor system performance and proactively identify areas for improvement within network infrastructure.
* Develop and maintain documentation for F5 architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
* Lead incident response and root cause analysis for network/application delivery issues.
* Represent Network Platform in Technical Review Board (TRB) and Change Approval Board (CAB).
* Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the team.
* Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to F5 and network engineering.
* Coordinate with vendors, including to resolve issues efficiently.
* Provide after-hours on-call support.
Qualifications and requirements
The role requires deep technical expertise in F5 BIG-IP (LTM, GTM, ASM, APM), strong experience with Cisco switching/routing, and a track record of hands-on network engineering leadership. Knowledge of enterprise network architecture, troubleshooting, and security practices is essential.
