Your Next Employer
Widely regarded as one of the district's flagship operations, Tongy Station is a 5,500ha mixed enterprise known for its practical innovation and investment in productivity. Based near Coolah, NSW, it's a privately owned farm led by an experienced, down-to-earth Farm Manager with a clear five-year plan focused on improving systems, pastures, and long-term capability.
They currently grow ~1,000ha of winter cropping, with 280ha of pasture (more in development), and a sizeable livestock program of 1,000 breeders and 6,000 sheep. Most operations - sowing, spraying, pasture development, and capital works are kept in-house, supported by a solid fleet of sprayers, loaders, graders and dozers. Harvesting is contracted.
You'll join a tight-knit, capable team that values doing the job well, sharing knowledge, and steadily building the operation for the long haul.
The Role
Working alongside the Manager and three other full-time staff, you'll be the cropping and development lead in a team that's otherwise livestock-focused. Around 90% of your time will be on cropping and development—sowing, spraying, spreading, pasture improvement, fencing, earthworks, and capital projects, with the balance supporting livestock operations.
This isn't a role where you just tick boxes. It's hands-on, standards-driven work that builds your understanding of both the "how" and the "why" behind decisions. You'll also play a key part in expanding in-house capability across farm operations and infrastructure projects.
If you thrive on variety, care about doing things properly, and want to be central to a business that's investing in its future, this role puts you right at the heart of it.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain machinery for sowing, spraying, spreading, earthworks, and pasture improvement
* Use loaders, graders, bulldozers and spray rigs confidently; applying GPS and farm tech where applicable.
* Contribute to winter cropping and pasture renovation programs in collaboration with the Farm Manager
* Assist with livestock tasks (~10%) - handling, feeding, and infrastructure support (no working dogs required)
* Carry out basic mechanical servicing; escalate major repairs to local contractors
* Support fencing, capital works, road maintenance, and general farm upkeep
* Champion WHS standards and a team-first mindset
What You Bring
We're looking for someone who's capable, grounded, and ready to take ownership of their patch. Our ideal candidate will bring:
* Strong machinery experience across loaders, graders, dozers, and spray rigs
* Exposure to dryland cropping and/or pasture development
* Basic mechanical skills; welding or fabrication experience is an advantage
* Organised, self-managing and solutions-focused in your approach to daily work
* Communicates clearly, constructively, and takes pride in doing the job properly
* Willing to support livestock work when needed; experience valued but not essential
* Integrity, curiosity, and a steady, practical attitude
What You'll Gain
* Pathways: While this isn't an immediate step into management, future structural changes may create defined roles (e.g. Cropping or Livestock Manager). You'll build capability that can lead to leadership if and when the door opens.
* Culture: No egos. No rigid mindsets. Just a practical, team-first crew that backs each other and takes pride in doing things properly.
* Home: Brand-new, fully renovated 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottage on-farm, with all utilities covered, including Starlink internet.
* Development: Daily coaching from an experienced manager who explains the "why", builds capability, and supports external training where relevant.
* Vehicle: Fully maintained work ute, with reasonable personal use included.
* Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm (30-minute lunch), averaging around 45 hours per week.
