About The Role
Join our team as a Fire Safety Adviser where you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and compliance of Council facilities. In this position, you will lead and manage fire and evacuation planning across a diverse portfolio of buildings, ensuring all systems, signage, and compliance records meet legislative requirements including the Building Fire Safety Regulation and Work Health and Safety legislation. You will coordinate the Emergency Control Organisations (ECOs), deliver fire safety training and evacuation drills, and conduct regular inspections and audits to proactively manage risk and maintain a safe environment for staff and the community.
Working collaboratively across Council, you will provide expert advice on fire safety requirements for building design, upgrades, and changes in use, ensuring compliance is embedded from planning through to delivery. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you will review and enhance fire safety systems, procedures, and practices, using insights and lessons learned to strengthen organisational capability and promote a culture of safety and compliance.
About You
* Demonstrated ability to lead and model a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with WHS systems, legislation, and obligations
* Proven experience developing and managing Fire and Evacuation Plans, including PEEPs, signage, and compliance records
* Experience delivering evacuation training and supporting Emergency Control Organisation roles (e.g. Chief Wardens and Wardens)
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build collaborative relationships across a large organisation
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in fire safety
* Experience managing contractors and ensuring adherence to health and safety requirements
* Ability to interpret and apply legislation and corporate policies to maintain compliance
* Excellent time management, organisational and prioritisation skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant safety and contractor management systems
Mandatory Requirements
* Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
* Current Building Fire Safety qualification (as per Qld regulation, including PUAFER units)
* White Card, Blue Card, and Queensland C Class driver’s licence
Desirable
* Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
* Diploma in Work Health and Safety or higher
