Victorian Power System Analysis is accountable for planning the transmission system, making network investment decisions, assessing the connection of new generators and loads in Victoria and ensuring these investments don't adversely impact the power system as a whole.
The department plays a key role in successfully navigating the energy future by determining investments and approaches that are in the best interest of consumers, and by acting as a trusted advisor for VicGrid and the Victorian Government.
About the role Join us as an Engineer (3 positions) in the Victorian Synchronous and Storage Connections team and work on projects bringing the future of Victoria's transmission network to reality.
In this role, you'll undertake assessments of connections projects— including wind, solar, BESS, and hybrid connections.
You will identify technical issues and test solutions to enable projects to get connected in Victoria and undertake analysis in different power system applications to assess performance; and learn new skills along the way.
This role is based in any of AEMO's offices (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide) with flexible/hybrid working arrangements.

What you will be doing Deliver power system studies using PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory, small-signal analysis and operational data.
Support generator, storage and data-centre connection projects under the guidance of a Lead Engineer.
Develop innovative technical assessment approaches with AEMO, VicGrid and industry stakeholders.
Contribute to complex connection categories including offshore wind, HVDC links and data centres.
Support VicGrid in delivering declared shared network functions and joint planning activities.
Strengthen AEMO's reputation as a trusted technical advisor to developers, market participants and government.
What you will bring to the role Education Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other discipline relevant to power systems analysis.
Eligibility to apply for relevant engineering registration requirements (including RPEV) is a plus.
Experience and Knowledge Some experience modelling generator and power system behaviour and resolving performance issues using tools such as PSCAD, PSSE (v34+), DIgSILENT PowerFactory, SSAT, Mudpack and MATLAB.
Sound understanding of the electricity industry and generator technical requirements.
Proven client-facing experience with strong interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Good understanding of AEMO's role and the operation of the National Electricity Market.
Desirable - experience engaging with government agencies, contributing to policy, planning or construction of power system assets, and familiarity with the National Electricity Rules (NER).
