Consultant in Stroke and Neuro Rehab Medicine
The Mid Yorkshire Stroke and Neuro Rehab Service require a Consultant to complement the current team providing stroke services and Rehabilitation support for the Wakefield District, north Kirklees, some parts of south Leeds and the Hyperacute Services for large parts of Barnsley. This position is a substantive post for Stroke Medicine. You will join a team of 4 substantive Stroke Physicians, 6 Consultant Neurologists, Consultant Neurophysiologists and a Consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation.
Main duties of the job
The post will support the entire pathway covering Hyperacute services (currently 1:8), the acute stroke unit, the rehabilitation unit, and on‑call thrombolysis both out of hours and weekends. The consultant is expected to support the running of the TIA clinic, which is held every day of the week, and lead the multidisciplinary team working to promote recovery and optimise patient outcomes.
* Provide consultant‑level clinical leadership in stroke rehabilitation services
* Lead and support multidisciplinary team (MDT) working to promote recovery and optimise patient outcomes
* Work collaboratively with acute stroke, community, and therapy teams to ensure seamless care across the stroke pathway
* Deliver high‑quality, safe, and compassionate care in line with Trust standards
* Contribute to the continued development of Stroke and Rehabilitation services within the Trust
* Support service improvement initiatives, clinical governance, and quality assurance processes
* Work in partnership across the West Yorkshire Integrated Care System
* Contribute to education, supervision, and training of medical staff and wider MDT colleagues
* Provide specialist clinical care to stroke rehabilitation inpatients and outpatients
* Work closely with acute stroke teams to support patient flow and continuity of care, completing stroke rehab ward rounds
* Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and goal‑setting processes
* Support spasticity management and complex rehabilitation decision‑making
* Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and service improvement work
* Provide advice and support to community rehabilitation services

Person Specification
To meet the requirements of this role, applicants must demonstrate the following essential criteria:
* Full GMC Registration with licence to practise, be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT (or CESR / equivalent)
* Medical Degree from recognised medical school; MRCP or equivalent
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Demonstrates an intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving, good time management, and the ability to contribute to the development of the Trust and its services
* Able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and patients
* Displays caring and compassionate attitude
* Flexible & adaptable
* Willingness to provide and learn all aspects of hospital internal systems and processes and adhere to local policies
* Physically able to carry out the duties as specified in the job description and evidence competencies
* Able to access all trust sites in a timely manner to fulfil the duties of the post
* Disclosures + Barring Service (DBS) clearance
