Queensland Cane Agriculture & Renewables (QCAR)

QCAR is a grower representative body dedicated to advancing the interests of members. It promotes sustainable and profitable cane farming, supports technical innovation and research, and acts as an independent, unbiased advocate for growers and their communities. It works on behalf of members in dealings with sugar milling companies, government, and community stakeholders across Far North Queensland, Herbert, Burdekin, Mackay/ Central and Northern NSW growing districts.


About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager, the District Manager will lead the Burdekin office, delivering high‑quality member services and operational leadership across the district. Key responsibilities include:

* Delivery of member services, operational and administrative support for the district.
* Effective representation of QCAR to growers, mills, industry bodies, the QCAR Board and GM.
* Building and maintaining strong local relationships and responding to members.
* Implementing strategic initiatives to attract new members and retain existing ones.
* Managing financial administration of the statewide operations at the district level.
* Implementing strategic plan processes and operational activities.
* Providing secretariat support to the district committee and promoting QCAR through all avenues.
* Occasional after‑hours or weekend work for events or industry forums.


About You

We are looking for a manager with strong practical experience in member services, stakeholder engagement or a community‑focused role within agriculture or a related sector. Desired skills and experience:

* Proven leadership capability and ability to build collaborative teams.
* Understanding of board and sub‑committee support.
* Practical awareness of how to maintain and grow members.
* Commercial and financial awareness.
* Prior knowledge of the sugar cane sector or related industry representation is an advantage.
