For more than 30 years, Tenants Queensland has been a trusted voice for renters, advocating for fairer tenancy outcomes and supporting people to understand their rights, responsibilities and options. Through the Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service, QSTARS, the organisation provides specialist advice, information, referral and support to residential renters across Queensland. About the role As a QSTARS Advice Worker, you will provide high-quality tenancy information, intake, advice, guidance and case work to residential renters. You will support people to understand Queensland tenancy law, communicate with lessors and real estate agents, complete relevant forms, access dispute resolution pathways and, where needed, navigate QCAT processes. This role will suit someone who is calm under pressure, highly organised, client-focused and able to work sensitively with people who may be experiencing stress, disadvantage, housing insecurity or crisis. Key responsibilities In this role, you will: Provide intake, information, advice and guidance to eligible renters about tenancy law related issues. Support renters to understand their rights and responsibilities under Queensland residential tenancy laws. Help clients identify the source of their tenancy problems and develop practical plans to resolve them. Assist renters with forms, paperwork, notices, dispute resolution processes and QCAT pathways. Advocate for renters where required, particularly where they have limited capacity to advocate for themselves. Refer clients to appropriate legal, housing, homelessness and community support services. Maintain accurate client records and comply with service delivery, confidentiality, privacy and risk management requirements. Work collaboratively with QSTARS team members, legal officers, community services and partner organisations. Contribute to identifying tenancy issues, trends and opportunities to improve service delivery. The ability to work in a high-demand environment with people who may be distressed or vulnerable. Strong computer, data entry and record management skills. An understanding of Queensland residential tenancy laws and housing issues, or the demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge. Highly desirable Qualifications in social work, law, community services or a related field. Previous experience in community services, legal assistance, housing support, tenancy advocacy or a similar environment. Desirable Queensland driver’s licence and ability to travel if required.
