The role is responsible for overseeing SMP fabrication, workshop & site operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery across multiple clients and projects. Purpose of the RoleThe Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of engineering and workshop operations. You will manage teams, systems, and processes to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to specification. This role operates at a management and strategic level, working closely with senior leadership, clients and project teams.Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage engineering, fabrication, and workshop operationsProvide leadership and direction to supervisors, engineers, and trades teamsEnsure compliance with Standards, QA requirements and WHS laws and legislationOversee production planning, scheduling, and resource allocationManage budgets, cost control, and productivity performanceDrive quality assurance, inspection, and continuous improvement processesSupport estimating, tender reviews, providing technical input where requiredDevelop and mentor leaders and technical personnelMaintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
About YouYou are an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in heavy industry or fabrication environments. You will ideally have:
Trade qualifications, with proven experience in a similar roleBackground in structural, mechanical and piping in the mining industryStrong leadership, planning, and people management capabilityCommercial awareness, including cost control and productivity managementSound understanding of QA/QC systems and Australian StandardsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under pressureStrong written and verbal communication skillsKnowledge of rail industry desirable
Qualifications & Requirements
Trade Qualifications, preferably Metal Fabricator or Fitter/Machinist Current Australian Driver’s Licence
