The primary function of a Phlebotomist is to collect blood samples efficiently, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
* Obtain patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
* Perform venepuncture in accordance with established protocols
* Label, package, and store samples correctly
* Effectively use the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
* Ensure timely dispatch of samples to the laboratory
* Maintain effective liaison with laboratory staff
* Collaborate with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient-related matters
In addition to these core responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be requested to participate in audits, local initiatives to enhance service delivery, shared learning opportunities, and opening/closing procedures as per the roster.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* Qualification in Venepuncture
* Training in Infection Prevention and Control
* Experience in a GP practice
* Experience with SystemOne
* Ability to record clinical notes
* Clear, polite telephone manner
* Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
* Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
* Effective time management
