About the Finance and Property Team
The Finance and Property team is responsible for ensuring the financial sustainability of the Office through financial, procurement, travel and property management.
The team proactively engages with business areas to provide advice and reporting to drive strategic decision making. Other functions include management of the internal and external budget process, financial reporting, financial operations and compliance.
Our opportunity
The Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman is looking to fill a vacancy in the Finance and Property team at the EL1 level. This role provides an exciting opportunity to engage with senior executives across the Office to support the delivery of both the external and internal budget, contribute to the development of complex cost recovery models and manage the delivery of all financial reporting. As a key advisor, this role forms part of the core enabling function of the Office, supporting effective service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.
Duties are to be performed under broad direction of your supervisor and in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct, upholding the APS Values and upholding the office values of independence, impartiality, integrity, accessibility, and professionalism. Responsibilities and duties will be performed in line with APS Work Level standards for the classification and function of each position.
The duties of the role include but are not limited to:
* preparing and presenting management reports to support decision making, annual budgets, monthly forecasts and cost recovery models
* delivery of the financial statements and Portfolio Budget Statements. directing activities to meet deliverables to the Department of Finance, the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian National Audit Office.
* develop and manage a range of stakeholder relationships. Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation
* Communicate and make decisions that are based on professional judgement, evaluating risks and in the context of a complex and changing environment
* identifying strategic business improvement opportunities including automations and streamlining policies and practices
* manage and provide expert advice and assistance to team members
Eligibility
The successful candidate must:
* be an Australian citizen,
* undergo a National Criminal History records check and
* be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a level appropriate to the position offered. The level of the security clearance will be dependent upon the requirements of the position.
* Have relevant financial management qualifications and demonstrated experience.
