Financial Controller – pathway to C-suite
This is a rare chance for a commercially minded Financial Controller to step into a role where you can build the finance function your way, partner directly with the Directors, and grow into a C-suite position in a business that's scaling quickly but still genuinely cares about its people.
About us
Acerair is a family-friendly South Australian business in the air conditioning / trades space, growing at around 20% per year. With growth comes variety, new challenges and plenty of opportunities for the right people.
Our tagline is "Acer Care" – and we mean it. We look after our customers, we look after our team, and we like relationships that last a long time. A lot of our staff and clients have been with us for years, and we're pretty proud of that.
About the role
This is a full-time role with some flexibility. It's ideal for someone who is ready to step up from "finance manager" or "senior accountant" into a true leadership role, with a clear pathway to a C-suite position for the right person.
You will
* own and lead the finance function across the business
* be hands‑on with day‑to‑day accounting, reporting and cashflow
* create and manage budgets and forecasts
* work with managers so they understand their numbers and hit their targets
* monitor and report on KPIs across departments
* review our current use of external financial resources and recommend whether to retain, expand or bring services in-house
* report directly to the Directors and work closely with all departments
This will suit someone who's happy to roll up their sleeves now, then help build a small team and grow into a more strategic, C‑level role as the business continues to expand.
Skills and experience we're looking for
* CPA (or equivalent professional qualification)
* at least 5 years' experience in a similar senior finance role
* experience with SimPro or a comparable job management system
* strong working knowledge of Xero (our current platform)
* proven experience managing budgets, reporting and cashflow
* confidence working with non‑finance people – you can explain the numbers in plain English
* a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset – you don't just report the numbers, you help improve them
* must have current Australian work authorisation
Candidates must have existing Australian work rights as we do not sponsor visas for this position.
What's in it for you
* competitive executive‑level salary package (including superannuation), commensurate with experience and the value you bring
* a genuine opportunity to grow into a C‑suite position in a relatively short timeframe for the right candidate
* flexible working hours, with a focus on being present to support and influence the team
* a friendly, caring culture where your voice is heard and your ideas are welcomed
* direct access to supportive Directors who want a trusted finance partner, not just a "number cruncher"
* regular Friday knock‑offs and a relaxed, down‑to‑earth team environment
* ongoing training and development – we want you to grow with us and help us grow too
