We are currently seeking Assistant Transport Manager (2IC) to join our transport team in Warrnambool, Victoria.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Oversee and manage day‐to‐day transport operations to ensure all fleet movements are safe, compliant, and on schedule.
* Coordinate and monitor daily load planning, allocation, and execution to maximise efficiency and minimise delays.
* Act as the primary point of contact for drivers, providing clear direction, support, and performance oversight.
* Ensure all drivers operate in compliance with fatigue management, Chain of Responsibility, and safety regulations.
* Monitor live operations and proactively resolve issues, including delays, breakdowns, and operational disruptions.
* Liaise closely with the Workshop team to prioritise maintenance, reduce downtime, and ensure fleet roadworthiness.
* Ensure all vehicle defects are reported, recorded, and actioned in a timely manner.
* Drive operational efficiency by identifying and addressing inefficiencies such as fuel usage, idle time, and empty running.
* Maintain clear and consistent communication with drivers, workshop personnel, and management regarding operational performance and issues.
* Support driver onboarding, training, and ongoing development to maintain high performance and compliance standards.
* Promote and enforce a strong safety culture with a zero‐tolerance approach to non‐compliance.
* Maintain accurate operational records and reporting, including incidents, delays, and performance metrics.
* Take ownership of operational decision‐making, resolving issues independently and escalating only when necessary.
* Step into the Transport Manager role when required, ensuring continuity of operations and no drop in performance standards.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in transport, logistics, or fleet operations, preferably in a fast‐paced environment.
* Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience managing drivers or operational teams.
* Strong understanding of transport compliance requirements, including fatigue management and Chain of Responsibility.
* Experience in load planning, scheduling, and fleet coordination.
* Ability to monitor and manage real‐time operations, including problem‐solving under pressure.
* Strong decision‐making skills with the ability to take ownership of operational issues.
* Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with drivers, workshop teams, and management.
* Solid understanding of vehicle operations, maintenance processes, and defect reporting.
* Ability to identify inefficiencies and contribute to cost control initiatives (e.g., fuel usage, downtime, route optimisation).
* Good level of computer literacy (e.g., transport systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools).
