Position
Reporting to the Senior Audiologist & Team Leader the Paedatric Audiologist will have responsibility for the provision of clinical services at the Main office site and will manage procedural development of the program's clinical services delivery and expansion, in line with the mission of the foundation in a culturally appropriate manner for Aboriginal Australia. This person will have a strong knowledge in the field of Audiology, Health Services Operations, management of program/s along with management and implementation of associated business.
The Paediatric Audiologist will be both strategic and process-minded and will assist the Senior Audiologist & Team Leader in the development of a performance culture among a group of individuals with varying skill levels. The paediatric Audiologist must be a leader who is able to help others at EFWAdeliver results that make the vision a reality. Importantly, the successful person will have the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to build relationships with stakeholders integral to the running of the business.
Responsibilities
* Providing private/subsidised hearing assessments for children from birth to 12 years at the Hear Today clinic
* Infant Diagnostic Testing (IDT) for private paediatric assessments and children referred through the NBHS (Newborn Hearing Screening program) including diagnostic OAE testing and non-sedated ABR
* Follow up services for all children identified with risk factors through the NBHS program
* Training and assessment of Newborn Hearing Screeners as needed
* Tympanometry screening and otoscopy for regular ENT clinics
* Parent/Community Education as needed – including Hearing Awareness Week and GP education sessions
* Write reports to referral sources for paediatric assessments as necessary
* Referral of patients to external agencies where necessary – Perth Children's Hospital, Australian Hearing, School of Special Educational Needs, Early Intervention
* Visit remote outreach region once per month on a rotating roster (Pilbara, Goldfields, Esperance, South West, Kimberley & Mid West) to provide Audiological services to children who are at‐risk for middle ear disease.
* Audiologist is responsible for the running of each remote visit – Team Leader – car hire, check-in to accommodation, signing-in to reception at schools and collection of consent form
* Responsible for the safety of all team members – Safety Brief (water, satellite phone, driving)
* Visit local schools and aboriginal communities to provide hearing services/education
* Referral of patients to external agencies where necessary – hearing Australia, School of Special Educational Needs, Early Intervention
* Running ENT clinics where necessary
* Prompt/accurate record keeping and completion of all paperwork
* Ongoing tracking and monitoring of patients requiring audiological/medical review
* Locate and discuss potential site problems with Director of Clinical Services or school
* Liaise with local medical providers/partners to ensure adequate medical supplies are available for each remote visit
* Attendance and participation in Audiology departmental meetings held (quarterly)
* Attendance and participation in Earbus organisational meetings
* Evaluation of all EFWA programs for improvement and quality management
* Responsible for ensuring that all equipment that requires calibration is flagged with the appropriate staff member
* Transport equipment for outreach trips
* Clinical File management
* Updating appointment list in Best Practice and maintaining calendar
* Updating case notes, ensuring all appointments are recorded on file and maintain accurate files that are professionally notated for each appointment
* Writing professional reports for each appointment for families and appropriate health providers
* Assist other audiologists when required with testing children. Cover screening and hearing assessments when other audiologists are unavailable.
* Apply principle of continuous improvement to all aspects of EFWA programs
* Assist in centre‐based research projects as they arise
* Attend audiology conferences/training for personal development and maintenance of CPD points, when available
* Other duties as required
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Member of or ability to obtain membership of Audiology Australia
* Audiology Qualifications
* Working with Children Check Card
* National Police Clearance
* Driver's Licence
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
* Prior experience working in remote communities
* Previous experience working within Aboriginal Australia
* Good understanding of record keeping, consent process and confidentiality
* 4WD experience of advanced driving experience
