Edge Machine Tools (EMT) is a Western Australian–based engineering business and a subsidiary of Edge Engineering. EMT specialises in advanced manufacturing machinery, CNC equipment, automation, and precision mechanical systems. Working closely with Edge Engineering, EMT delivers high-end machine tools, rebuilds, and innovative manufacturing solutions to mining, manufacturing, and industrial clients across Australia.
Due to continued growth, EMT is seeking a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our team and develop practical, hands-on engineering skills in a real-world environment.
The Role
This position provides exposure to the full lifecycle of complex machinery, from design and development through to assembly, installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement. The role suits a graduate who wants to combine engineering design with hands-on workshop and site experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with mechanical design and detailing of machine tools and custom equipment
• Prepare and maintain engineering drawings and technical documentation
• Support machine builds, installations, and commissioning (workshop and onsite)
• Assist with fault finding, root cause analysis, and design improvements
• Participate in R&D, prototyping, and testing activities
• Liaise with suppliers and assist with component selection and procurement
• Contribute to risk assessments, technical reports, and project documentation
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing
About You
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (recent graduate or final-year student)
• Strong interest in machinery, manufacturing, and mechanical systems
• Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and tolerances
• Exposure to CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360 or similar)
• Willingness to learn, be hands-on, and work in workshop and site environments
• Good communication skills and a practical problem-solving approach
• Australian working rights and a current driver's licence
• Professional experience in Fusion 360 CAD software is required
Desirable (but not essential)
• Internship or vacation work in manufacturing, mining, or heavy industry
• Exposure to CNC machinery, hydraulics, pneumatics, or automation
• Basic understanding of machining or fabrication processes
