Role Summary
The Operating Theatre Assistant is responsible for supporting the surgical team in preparing the operating theatre for surgery, managing equipment and supplies, and ensuring a safe working environment.
This is an entry-level position requiring strong technical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. The successful candidate will work effectively in a high-pressure environment, prioritizing tasks and maintaining attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare the operating room for surgery, including setup of medical devices and equipment maintenance.
* Adhere to strict infection control protocols and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions promptly.
* Ensure all technical and safety checks are completed before use of equipment, including electrical and mechanical devices.
* Provide assistance to surgeons, anaesthetists and nursing staff as required.
* Manage inventory and ordering of supplies, reporting any issues with equipment or supplies to management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Certification in Theatre Technician (desirable).
* Ability to complete Cert III in Health Services Assistance through Albury Wodonga Health's training programs.
* Prior experience in a hospital or surgical setting highly preferred.
* Experience with operating theatre equipment desirable.
