About the role:
The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for a team of mechanical engineers providing engineering solutions to emerging fleet issues and the introduction of new equipment. The team is responsible for the design and installation of new structures and equipment whilst maintaining safe, compliant, and reliable freight rolling stock, while also maximising performance and profitability across multiple projects.
Job tasks and responsibilities
* Engineering support for major overhauls / in sourced work.
* Delivers on engineering design, design change and resolution of technical issues.
* Supports development of Technical Training Material.
* Adhering to all standard practice procedures as outlined in the integrated management system.
* Understand safety during engineering design change (SFAIRP assessment).
* Explores alternative and creative solutions to meeting the needs of the customer.
* Delivers to customer expectations and service standards, in the areas of timeliness, information transfer, availability and reliability.
* Provides expert technical information and / or reports to internal and external stakeholders.
* Ensures that engineering change does not compromise the compliance of the rolling stock to workplace or rail safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
* Membership of a professional institution (e.g. MIEAust) and RPEQ status in Queensland.
* Meets Rail Safety Worker requirements for the role.
* Experience (5yrs +) in Mechanical system design.
