Bishop Druitt College (BDC), a leading K-12 Anglican School on the NSW North Coast, invites applications from qualified, visionary educators for the position of Head of Faculty (Performing Arts).
Operating within a collaborative co-leadership framework, the successful candidate will oversee the academic and pedagogical governance of the Years 7-12 Dance, Drama, and Music curriculum. Partnering closely with the Head of Performance—who manages co-curricular ensembles and productions—the Head of Faculty will lead the team to ensure academic rigor and student engagement in alignment with the Bishop Druitt Way.
The role and our co-leadership framework
This role is a full time ongoing teaching appointment (incorporating a renewable three-year tenure cycle for the Head of Faculty leadership component).
To optimise faculty operations, leadership is divided into two cooperative portfolios:
* The Academic Portfolio (Head of Faculty): Manages pedagogical standards, NESA compliance, curriculum development, assessment, data analysis, and staff mentoring, and,
* The Performance Portfolio (Head of Performance): Directs the co-curriculum ensemble program, private tuition, and public showcase events.
The successful candidate in this role will be highly collaborative and believe in a team approach at all times. Both leaders will coordinate on strategic objectives, budgeting, and major events (such as the biennial musical) to present a unified leadership approach.
The key objectives of the role
The Head of Faculty (Performing Arts) will have full accountability over the pedagogical and instructional leadership of the Performing Arts faculty, including Curriculum, Assessment, and Regulatory Compliance, Administrative and People Management.
To ensure success and growth of the faculty you will;
* Model exemplary, evidence-based classroom teaching across Dance, Drama, and Music.
* Experience in leading or delivering VET Entertainment and/or expertise in audio visual.
* Cultivate reflective practice through lesson observations, peer feedback, and instructional coaching.
* Integrate key institutional initiatives, including Designing for Deep Learning (DDL) and student digital micro-credentialing.
* Enhance student learning outcomes by implementing visible learning frameworks.
* Direct the development and delivery of NESA-compliant curricula for Years 7-12, including elective pathways.
* Analyze student performance data (such as the HSC Results Analysis Package and NAPLAN) to refine instructional strategies.
* Ensure compliance with NESA registration guidelines, assessment protocols, and reporting deadlines.
* Oversee the maintenance and procurement of curriculum-related equipment and physical assets.
* Coordinate faculty staffing, class allocations, and teaching loads with senior leadership.
* Formulate and manage the annual faculty budget to ensure efficient resource allocation.
* Facilitate professional development and support staff through NESA accreditation maintenance.
* Manage assessment feedback systems via the college Learning Management System (Schoolbox) to maintain clear, timely communication with families.
* Support the Head of Performance with key events, including the Performing Arts Awards, community engagements, and college liturgies.
* Ensure curriculum continuity between the Primary and Secondary performing arts programs.
Selection Criteria
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
* Qualifications: A tertiary degree in secondary education specialising in Dance, Drama, or Music, with current NESA accreditation.
* Pedagogical Expertise: Successful teaching experience within the NSW HSC curriculum, with deep knowledge of NESA syllabus standards.
* Leadership & Technology: Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor an academic team using modern educational technologies (e.g., Schoolbox, TASS, Google Workspace).
* Ethical Alignment: Commitment to supporting the inclusive Anglican ethos of Bishop Druitt College.
* Compliance: A valid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) and current First Aid/CPR certification.
