* Own and shape a core systems environment (foundational hire)
* North Sydney | Permanent, full-time
We're partnering with a well-established, fast-growing construction business delivering mission-critical infrastructure across Australia.
This organisation is known for doing things properly. It operates with a high-trust, open and transparent model, values long-term relationships over short-term wins, and has built a culture where people feel genuinely part of the business.
Why this role exists
The business has grown rapidly and has recently made a deliberate investment in bringing technology fully in-house. A senior technology roadmap has been established, key foundational hires have already been made across network engineering and desktop support, and now they're looking for a Systems Administrator to become a core part of that internal team.
The opportunity
You'll sit at the centre of the environment, owning and running systems day-to-day while also helping mature and improve the platform as the business scales. Initially, the focus will be on understanding a complex hybrid environment and taking handover of systems. Over time, the role becomes more autonomous, with real ownership and influence.
Key responsibilities include:
* Owning and operating Windows Server and Microsoft 365 environments (hybrid / on-prem)
* Acting as the technical escalation point across the business (~170 users)
* Building, maintaining and improving servers, infrastructure, backup & recovery
* Using PowerShell to automate, standardise and improve
* Improving documentation, standards and current-state visibility
* Leading and contributing to infrastructure and systems projects
The team
You'll work closely with a Senior Systems Engineer, a Senior Network Engineer, a Head of Technology, with clear separation between network, systems and support. Desktop support is handled by a dedicated L1/L2 team across Sydney and Melbourne, allowing this role to focus on ownership rather than ticket churn.
What they're looking for
* 5+ years' experience in a Systems Administration or similar role
* Strong experience across Windows Server, Active Directory and Microsoft 365
* Comfortable in hybrid / on-prem environments
* Solid PowerShell capability
* Able to navigate Linux (build experience not required)
* Someone who takes ownership, follows through, and enjoys being trusted
* Strong communication skills and a customer-focused mindset
Location & requirements
* North Sydney-based, initially on-site 4-5 days (further flexibility evolves over time)
* Australian citizenship required due to future project clearance needs
* Real ownership and trust
* A business that values IT as a partner, not a cost centre
* A chance to shape an environment, not just maintain one
* Meaningful projects and a grounded, people-first culture
If you're a Systems Administrator who enjoys owning an environment, working closely with the business, and being part of something that's being built properly, this is a rare opportunity.
