The role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Line of Sight operativeto support the safe passage of piloted vessels under the Tasman Bridge. The Line of Sight function is a critical role which requires careful observation and efficient communication, and is based in the Hobart Tower in cooperation with Marine Pilots, Launch Masters and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS).
Line of Sight Responsibilities
* Provide high level of communication and operational support to Hobart Marine Pilots and VTS during Tasman Bridge transits.
* Provide a level of marine expertise, knowledge and operational support to deliver the services of Line of Sight.
* Delivery of the prescribed Line of Sight Service including responses to marine incidents, related emergencies in accordance with regulations, procedures, instructions.
* Work in conjunction with the VTS to assist in organizing and coordinating shipping movements as required.
* Provide professional communications and support to marine pilots, Harbour Master, management and other Port resources.
* Gather, record, retrieve and distribute high standard data relevant to Line of Sight services using information systems and software tools provided in accordance with TasPorts policies, procedures and practices.
* Obtain a working knowledge and experience in Vessel Traffic Services as the opportunity permits.
Knowledge, skills and experience (Selection Criteria)
1. Demonstrated ability to provide professional customer service.
2. Proven strong verbal, written and oral communication skills.
3. Display the ability to manage resources and time in order to assist with the planning and organisation of work to adequately discharge a wide range of duties.
4. Current knowledge of WH&S requirements and responsibilities in the workplace and a demonstrated commitment to safe working procedures.
5. Experience in a shipping or operations environment would be deemed an advantage including communications via radio.
6. Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and with limited supervision.
What you will have
Essential:
* Possession of Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency.
* Current unrestricted Tasmanian drivers' licence.
* Current Maritime Security Identification Card, or ability to obtain.
Desirable:
* Possession of current relevant maritime qualification.
* Experience in a shipping or port environment would be deemed an advantage.
