The key duties of the position include
The Role
The APS 6 Executive Officer is a pivotal role in the Office of the Chief Defence Scientist (CDS), leading business support and administrative activities. As an APS 6 Executive Officer, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills by performing a wide range of tasks and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.

Your primary responsibilities will include:
* Reviewing and preparing material for the CDS, including staff messages, meeting agendas and papers, correspondence, and leading the secretariat function for DSTG Senior Leadership Team meetings.
* Tasking line areas within DSTG and collating information from relevant Divisional executive teams and Chiefs of Division, which may include tasking talking points or meeting briefs for the CDS.
* Using strong organisational skills, including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, work effectively under pressure, and collaborate with team members.
* Demonstrating highly-developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate information accurately, concisely, and with influence.


About our Team
The Office of the Chief Defence Scientist comprises two teams:
* Executive Support team includes the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Executive Officer, Administration Officer, and Executive Assistant.
* Coordination and Ministerial Liaison team includes a Director, Deputy Director, and two Ministerial Liaison Officers.


These two teams work in coordination to support the Chief Defence Scientist and, by extension, Defence Science and Technology Group in delivering innovation, science and technology outcomes for Defence.

We are seeking an ideal candidate who has:
* Demonstrated experience in an administrative or executive support role, with a proven capability to anticipate, analyse, and assess issues in a timely manner.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to engage effectively with executives, staff, and external stakeholders.
* Strong organisational skills, including the ability to set priorities, work effectively under pressure, and in a team environment.
* A willingness and ability to travel interstate when required.
