About Tasmanian Lung Centre (TLC)
TLC is a private respiratory medicine practice and lung function testing service supporting the assessment, monitoring, and treatment of adult respiratory disease. Since opening in April 2024, we have seen increasing demand across the Hobart region, leading us to expand services through remote testing clinics at seven GP practices.
Role Summary
An exciting opportunity exists for a Respiratory Scientist to join our small yet passionate team at the Tasmanian Lung Centre (TLC) in Lenah Valley, Hobart. We are looking for a motivated individual who is eager to learn and develop their clinical skills. Previous experience is preferred but not essential, as comprehensive on‑the‑job training and supervision will be provided by our experienced Level 2 Lung Function Scientist.
This is a part‑time temporary position (0.8 FTE) based at our laboratory in Gleeson House, Calvary Lenah Valley. The role has potential to progress to a permanent full‑time position in 2026, which may include testing at our remote GP clinics. Applicants must have full working rights in Australia ; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
Key Tests and Equipment
* Spirometry (pre‑ and post‑bronchodilator)
* Diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide (DLCO)
* Body plethysmography
* Fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO)
* Bronchoprovocation (mannitol challenge)
* Maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures
* Forced oscillation technique (FOT)
Role Responsibilities
* Perform accurate and timely pulmonary function tests and maintain professional records of all results.
* Operate and maintain laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer and laboratory procedures, including calibration, quality control, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and infection control.
* Perform basic administrative tasks such as scanning referrals and data entry.
li>Maintain respectful and professional relationships with colleagues to support a positive workplace culture.
Essential Criteria
* Bachelor's degree in science, applied science, biomedical science, exercise science, or a related clinical field.
* Strong understanding of respiratory physiology.
* Availability to work an alternating 5‑day/3‑day weekly roster.
* Current Driver's Licence and access to own transport.
* Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration.
* Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills.
* Enthusiastic, reliable, and committed to high‑quality patient care.
Desirable Criteria
* Previous clinical experience in respiratory science.
* Certified Respiratory Function Scientist (CRFS) credentialing.
