The opportunity
We're seeking an experienced planning enforcement leader to coordinate and deliver our Planning Investigations service. Reporting to the Manager Planning, Building and Health Services, this senior role leads a specialist team responsible for investigating and resolving complex planning compliance matters.
You'll play a critical role in protecting community amenity and safety, ensuring compliance with the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Hobsons Bay Planning Scheme and Council Local Laws, while fostering a positive, high‐performing and improvement‐focused team culture.
What You'll Be Doing
* Lead, coach and develop the Planning Investigations team to deliver high‐quality, customer‐focused services
* Coordinate and oversee complex planning investigations and enforcement matters
* Apply a balanced approach to compliance, including education, negotiation, mediation and formal enforcement
* Represent Council at VCAT, the Magistrates' Court and other relevant forums
* Provide expert advice to Council, stakeholders and the community on planning enforcement matters
* Work collaboratively across Council departments and with external agencies to resolve non‐compliance
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives, systems and procedures within the service
* Manage performance, budgets and service delivery against statutory and organisational requirements
What You'll Need To Succeed
* Postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline or significant experience in statutory planning or planning investigations
* Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to coach, mentor and engage teams
* In‐depth knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, including the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and planning enforcement processes
* Strong experience managing complex compliance matters, investigations and stakeholder relationships
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including advocacy and presentation
* Ability to exercise sound professional judgement, manage competing priorities and work with minimal supervision
* Current Victorian driver's licence (Construction Induction Card desirable)
