Role & Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive perioperative medical care from preoperative assessment and optimisation through to postoperative management and follow-up.
* Conduct detailed preoperative evaluations including medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic review.
* Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, and allied health professionals to develop individualised perioperative care plans.
* Manage perioperative medical conditions, chronic disease optimisation, medications, and postoperative complications.
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
* Educate and support patients regarding surgical preparation, expectations, risks, and recovery.
* Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance perioperative care and patient outcomes.
* Contribute to the education and mentoring of medical students, residents, or fellows where appropriate.
Requirements
* Medical degree from a recognised institution.
* Current AHPRA registration as a General & Perioperative Physician.
* Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
* Current rights to work in Australia (Australian/New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency).
* Demonstrated experience in perioperative medicine, including preoperative assessment, medical optimisation, and postoperative care.
* Strong clinical knowledge managing complex medical comorbidities.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Commitment to patient-centred, evidence-based care and ongoing professional development.
