BISA – Hub location to be negotiated on appointment (Northern – Elizabeth, Central – Adelaide, Southern – Noarlunga).

Position Summary

Working as part of the interdisciplinary team focussed on the needs of participants with acquired brain injury, the Senior Speech Pathologist is responsible for the provision and management of specialised, high quality Speech Pathology services delivered within Brain Injury SA. Duties include:

* managing and evaluating best practice.
* maintaining high level clinical standards in supervision of staff and students.
* implementing innovative clinical practices.

The post-holder also assists the Team Leader in:

* managing human and physical resources required to meet speech pathology service demand at their hub.
* developing and documenting systems to support quality and clinical standards.
* providing advice and consultancy to service funders, management and professional networks.
* providing clinical and professional leadership to Speech Pathologists.

This position holds delegated pairing other senior speech pathology staff based at the same hub. This means that simultaneous leave is restricted with the holder of the paired position.

Position RequirementsKey Result Area 1: Therapy Program ImplementationObjectives
* Providing advanced clinical skills to participants and maintaining currency of knowledge in relevant specialist areas of Speech Pathology.
* Co-ordinating Speech Pathology service provision.
* Maintaining professional standards and meeting organisational requirements in all reporting, recording and administrative practices.

Position holder is successful when:

* Services provided are client centred, founded in evidence or best practice and undertake a goal orientated approach.
* Interdisciplinary team has access to advanced and current clinical knowledge in specialist area to deliver best practice.
* In collaboration with the Discipline Lead – Speech Pathology, SP practice innovates to address identified needs and opportunities for further contribution to achievement of organisational purpose.
* Speech Pathology workloads including work allocation, and resource planning are effectively managed for efficiency and effectiveness.
* Close collaboration occurs with the hub Team Leader, to ensure participant needs can be accommodated and good service planning occurs.
* Participant service records are maintained to a professional standard of completeness and accuracy.
* Staff supervised are supported to achieve required standards in all reporting and administrative practices.
Key Result Area 2: Interdisciplinary Practice and TeamworkObjectives
* Working for excellence in interdisciplinary practice.

Position holder is successful when:

* Brain Injury SA staff have access to specialist Speech Pathology advice and service information as required.
* Therapeutic disciplines work collaboratively to identify and best address the needs of participants, enhance service delivery outcomes and influence service development.
* Consultancy is available as needed to members of the Rewire team and Senior Management team in clinical discipline specific matters.
* The Discipline Lead is supported in providing leadership and achieving best practice through excellence in collaboration and communication.
* Opportunities to participate in and contribute to the broader staff team and work of Brain Injury SA are undertaken positively and constructively.
Key Result Area 3: Staff and Student SupervisionObjectives
* Providing leadership and mentorship to junior Speech Pathology staff.
* Providing clinical education to Speech Pathology students.

Position holder is successful when:

* Junior SP staff and Allied Health Assistants enjoy a work environment that supports their learning and development with a particular focus on the building of specialist expertise in management and treatment of brain injury.
* Supervised staff are enabled to identify educational and development needs through regular feedback supported by annual performance reviews.
* Staff personal and professional development and that of the discipline is facilitated through educational programs and access to workshops, courses and conferences in line with organisational policy and budget capacity.
* Speech Pathology students experience a well-structured, inspiring and supported opportunity tailored to their learning and developmental needs.
* Through role modelling, students develop a culture of professionalism, accountability and reflective practice.
* Relevant communication is maintained with supervising universities, supporting development of clinical knowledge and interest in specialist employment in the area of brain injury amongst students.
* Clinical education for Flinders University Speech Pathology students is provided.
Key Result Area 4: Quality and SafetyObjectives
* Developing and appropriately reviewing policies and procedures specific to Speech Pathology service provision.
* Ensuring compliance with applicable legal and professional standards, with a particular focus in the practice of Speech Pathology.
* Adherent to and contribute to development of work health and safety monitoring and reporting.

Position holder is successful when:

* National Standards for NDIS and Disability Services are achieved and meet or exceed auditing requirements.
* Policies and procedures are available as required to support delivery of quality and safe Speech Pathology practice to participants with Brain Injury SA.
* Policies and procedures are implemented and periodically audited for quality purposes.
* Clinical standards and ethical practice are maintained in all Speech Pathology service provision.
* Supervised staff work safely in their practice seeking support and guidance appropriately.
* Organisational work, health, safety and injury management (WHS&IM) policies and procedures are adhered to.
* Supervised staff, students and volunteers are provided with access to the necessary information, instruction, training and supervision to effectively and safely carry out their work.

Qualifications/Registrations
* Relevant qualification in Speech Pathology.
* Membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
* Highly developed interpersonal skills incorporating excellent communication, organisational and negotiation skills.
* Minimum 3 years' experience in Speech Pathology assessment and service delivery with adults or at least 2 years specialising in the field of Neurology/Brain Injury.
* Current (within the last 3 years) Disability Worker Check and DCSI Child related employment screening/Working with Children check.
* Experience working with adults with Acquired Brain Injury.
* NDIS knowledge / experience.
* Experience supervising students and junior staff.
