With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community in which we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
We are looking for an experienced **Laboratory Technician **to join our Metallurgy team based at the Karara mine site. The Technician is responsible for routine and non-routine laboratory work that includes sampling, analysis, measuring, recording and interpreting results to meet deadlines and quality requirements.
This position operates on an **8 days on, 6 days off and **7 nights on, 7 nights off roster**.
**Key responsibilities;**
- Perform laboratory tests and procedures (the main equipment/tasks include sample preparation, XRF operation, sizings, sampling, and metallurgical lab tests)
- Complete tasks in both the chemical and metallurgical laboratories
- Maintain a high level of housekeeping in both the sample preparation and analytical laboratories
- Ensure daily workloads are planned to meet daily deadlines for the turnaround of results
- Lead by example in all matters of safety behaviour
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with all internal and external departments with the stake holdings in KML
**Essential requirements and experience;**
- Knowledge and experience of chemical or metallurgical laboratories
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
- 'C' Class WA Drivers' License
- Solid background and experience working in a mining laboratory environment
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Solid communication and relationship building skills
- Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
- National Police clearance
**Desirable**
- A Tertiary qualification in metallurgy or science related to the role
- Demonstrated experience working in a mining or other heavy industry laboratory
- Knowledge and experience in both metallurgical and chemical lab techniques
- XRF experience
- LIMS experience
- Metallurgical experience
