About us
The Youth Justice team provides community-based supervision and a range of case management and support services for young people who are appearing before, or have been sentenced by, the Children's Court, Children's Aboriginal Court and adult criminal courts, and who have been placed on youth justice supervised orders.
What you will do
As a Youth Justice Aboriginal Case Manager, you will supervise and support Aboriginal young people and others subject to Youth Justice Court orders. Your responsibilities include preparing Court and Youth Parole Board reports, developing Client Service Plans, attending court for client matters, providing assessments, developing case plans and reports, and advocating for support services. You will work to increase Aboriginal young people's opportunities for an enhanced quality of life and community inclusion, adopting a Care Team approach, implementing and reviewing case plans, setting goals, monitoring progress, advocating and referring to services, and ensuring needs are met in a culturally safe manner.
Qualifications and experience
* A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Youth community.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal youth community, its culture, society, and current issues including self‐determination.
* Understanding of the youth justice system, the factors driving Aboriginal over‐representation, and the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation and the Victorian Youth Justice program.
* Understanding of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and associated policies and guidelines.
* Knowledge of case management and case work principles, and the ability to use a range of assessment and intervention approaches suitable for the age, gender, developmental stage, cultural background, and offending‐related needs of the young person.
Qualifications
* A Bachelor of Social Work or Diploma in Community Services Work is highly desirable. Other tertiary qualifications at Diploma level or above will be considered only if they include units of study in case management or casework practice and have involved supervised practical work placements.
* A full driver's licence is required to respond to emergencies across the state at short notice and outside business hours.
* A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and must be provided prior to commencement of employment. The card must be maintained throughout the period of employment.
