St John Ambulance NT is seeking an experienced, commercially astute and values-driven executive to join our organisation as Chief Operating Officer – Deputy CEO.
This is a key executive leadership role, working directly with the Chief Executive Officer to strengthen enterprise performance, build organisational capability and support the delivery of strategic priorities across a complex, purpose-led organisation.
The Chief Operating Officer will lead the integration and performance of corporate, workforce, commercial and operational support functions, ensuring our services are aligned, sustainable and delivered with clear accountability.
As Deputy CEO, this role will also provide executive continuity, support delivery of strategic priorities, and strengthens coordination across all divisions, including act as CEO when required.
This role does not hold operational command of Ambulance services or clinical governance functions.

The Chief Operating Officer will work closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to:
* Lead the integration of workforce, commercial and corporate services
* Develop and implement corporate and workforce strategic plans
* Strengthen performance, accountability and reporting across the organisation
* Lead workforce planning, capability, culture improvement and accountability
* Support strategic financial management in partnership with the CFO
* Oversee commercial operations, including revenue, pricing, margin and sustainability
* Oversee key operational support functions including fleet, logistics and infrastructure
* Support governance, risk, compliance and Board reporting
This role will suit someone who can balance commercial discipline, workforce management and organisational purpose.
About you
You will be a capable and experienced executive leader who brings strong commercial judgement, financial acumen and the ability to lead through complexity.
You will bring:
* Strong leadership with ability to translate priorities into delivery
* Strong commercial and financial acumen, including margin and cost discipline
* Strong enterprise thinking across workforce, commercial and operations.
* Sound judgement and decision-making in complex environments
* Experience in leading workforce and organisational change
* Strong governance and risk awareness, including understanding of legislative obligations relevant to organisational operations.
* Ability to influence and engage across executive, operational and external stakeholders
* Resilience and composure under pressure
Experience in emergency services or a similarly complex operating environment will be highly regarded.
Qualifications and requirements
The successful candidate will ideally hold tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline, or bring substantial equivalent executive experience.
St John Ambulance NT is a child-safe organisation. Employment is subject to a valid Working with Children Check and a satisfactory National Police Check. The successful candidate will also be required to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and psychometric testing as part of the recruitment process.
