The Opportunity:

We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a Cultural Heritage Ranger to join the team in Bathurst. Forestry Corporation NSW employs a team of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Rangers to work with Aboriginal communities throughout NSW. The team works to identify, protect and manage Aboriginal Culture and Heritage.

About the role:

The purpose of this position is to support effective forestry operations by building and maintaining mutually beneficial partnerships with Aboriginal communities. You will ensure the appropriate protection and management of Aboriginal cultural heritage, undertake and/or facilitate accurate, compliant and timely pre-operational Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Surveys in designated areas. You will positively promote FCNSW to the public, ensure environmental protection, enforce visitor compliance and build positive community relationships.

We would love you to have:

- The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team in a bush, forest setting.
- Carefully consider the setting we work in, our community and our contractors and neighbours
- Have a safety-first mindset and be responsible for your own safety and support a culturally safe working environment
- A sound knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal cultural heritage issues, including knowledge and skills in conducting relevant surveys in a forest setting
- A sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols, customs, and practices as they relate to engagement, communication, site identification and recording
- Appreciation of issues relevant to the Aboriginal community, particularly as they relate to the use and management of forests
- The ability to meet, communicate and at times direct visitors to adhere to appropriate forest rules
- The ability to plan and prioritise work, meet standards and deadlines.
- Well-developed people skills and experience in building trusted relationships.
- Good written communication skills including ability to prepare cultural and heritage reports
