Our client is a large Queensland Government organisation responsible for planning, building, and operating one of Australias largest transport networks. They play a key role in connecting people, goods, and communities by managing road infrastructure and public transport systems. What You Will Be Doing
As an Environmental Advisor, you will be reporting to the Project Manager and play a key role in supporting the delivery of a major infrastructure program. This position focuses on ensuring environmental compliance, managing approvals, and providing specialist advice across all project phases. You will work closely with internal teams, government agencies, and external stakeholders to embed sound environmental management practices into project delivery. Your duties will include:
* Providing high-level advice on statutory environmental obligations, including requirements under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act)
* Assisting with the delivery of Commonwealth and State environmental approvals and offsets
* Supporting environmental assessments, compliance, and management across all project phases
* Reviewing project designs, environmental surveys, spatial data, and key documentation such as PERs and EMPs
* Identifying environmental risks and advising on design modifications where required
* Acting as a key advisor to project teams on environmental issues and risks to delivery
* Coordinating and managing environmental offsets and land acquisition activities
* Liaising with internal teams, government agencies, and industry stakeholders
* Preparing high-level written advice, briefing notes, and responses within legislated timeframes
* Representing the project in meetings, working groups, and stakeholder forums
Skills and Knowledge Required
* Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, particularly the EPBC Act
* Experience in environmental assessments, approvals, and compliance within infrastructure projects
* Ability to analyse complex information and provide practical, solution-focused advice
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple project phases
* High attention to detail and strong report writing capability
What You Will Need
* Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or Natural Resource Management from a recognised tertiary institution or equivalent qualification
* Current C Class Drivers Licence
* Ability to successfully complete a criminal history check
* Demonstrated experience in environmental advisory roles within infrastructure or government projects (highly regarded)
