Position overview
As a Software Engineer in the Energy and Resources Program, you will play a critical role in maintaining and evolving the Bureau's weather forecasting systems that produce and deliver forecasts for Energy and Resources customers. You will contribute to the development of customer-facing products, including interactive visualisations and robust APIs, to ensure weather insights are accessible and actionable for a diverse range of users. Your work will directly support forecasters and customers by enhancing the reliability, usability, and performance of forecasting tools and services.
You will also be a key contributor to the Bureau's next-generation weather forecasting platform, which integrates both meteorologist-driven forecasts and automated services powered by machine learning. Using your knowledge of weather data and leveraging your expertise in Python, Django, and React, you will help design and build scalable, full-stack solutions that transform complex weather data into actionable intelligence. You will apply DevSecOps principles to ensure secure, reliable, and maintainable systems, contributing to continuous integration and delivery pipelines. Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, will be highly desirable. You will work closely with customer-facing teams to understand user needs and transform them into innovative, high-impact services.
