The Northern Territory Department of Corrections plays an important role in keeping our communities safe by helping break the cycle of crime, reduce reoffending and improve the lives of offenders through education, training and employment opportunities.
Under the newly developed Rehabilitation and Reintegration (R&R) Framework the Clinical Rehabilitation team requires psychologists to support the existing team of psychologists, social workers and Aboriginal Program Facilitators to deliver offence related intensive treatment programs. There are opportunities to support the development of new intensive programs within both the men's and women's spaces within the prison system. This is an opportunity to develop your clinical skills as a psychologist within a correctional setting.
As a Clinician in the Clinical Rehabilitation team, your primary objective is to undertake specialist assessment, treatment and guide the management of complex and high-risk offenders, provide staff training on the principles of offender management and contribute to research in treatment and assessment of offenders with a focus on Aboriginal offenders.
Your key duties will comprise of, undertaking assessments and delivering treatment to address criminogenic risk and the psychological needs of offenders, generating psychological and risk assessment reports, and developing offence specific program manuals and staff training packages. In addition, you will assist in the development and implementation of clinical governance frameworks to ensure ethical, evidence based, and best practice standards are maintained; ensure inter-jurisdictional relationships are developed and rehabilitative outcomes for Aboriginal offenders are improved.
To be successful you require tertiary qualifications in psychology or social work with registration or membership with relevant Australian Professional Associations, demonstrated experience in criminogenic assessment, treatment and risk management of high-risk offenders and expertise in the assessment and delivery of psychological interventions for non-criminogenic needs. The ability to conduct research, and interact effectively with people from diverse cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds is essential.
In return you will be rewarded with a competitive salary package including 6 weeks recreational and 3 weeks personal leave, additional 3-day's paid leave over Christmas – New Year, 17.5% annual leave loading, 12% superannuation, negotiable flexible work arrangements, supervision and an opportunity to experience the uniqueness of living in the Northern Territory.
If you reside interstate, this a great time to consider moving to the Territory and experiencing the uniqueness of living and working in Darwin. Enjoy an enviable lifestyle and a work life balance that allows you time to explore the stunning landscapes, tropical sunsets and spectacular lightening displays. Darwin's rich multicultural society and community spirit makes it a great place to live, work and play.
