About the Role
The Principal Legal Officer (PLO) is a key member of the Executive Management Team, responsible for leading and managing the Legal Services division. This role oversees a team of legal professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality legal assistance and the implementation of strategic and operational initiatives that support the organisation's mission.
The PLO will also play a pivotal role in community legal education, law reform, advocacy, and the preparation of submissions, ensuring strong representation across these areas.

Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic and operational leadership to the Legal Services team.
* Manage and support solicitors, senior solicitors, paralegals, and legal assistants.
* Oversee the delivery of culturally appropriate legal services to clients.
* Lead the coordination of Community Legal Education (CLE) programs.
* Contribute to law reform activities, including research, policy submissions, and advocacy.
* Work collaboratively with the CEO and Executive team to advance organisational goals.
* Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, government departments, and community organisations.
* Ensure compliance with all professional, ethical, and legal obligations.
* Travel as required to other service locations across regional NSW.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements
* Bachelor of Laws and admission as a legal practitioner in New South Wales.
* Eligible to hold (or currently hold) a Principal Legal Officer Practising Certificate from the NSW Law Society (unrestricted).
* Minimum of 5+ years post-admission experience (PAE) with demonstrated leadership in a relevant legal or community sector environment.
* Current open driver's licence.
* Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one).
* Willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
