Position Overview
As the Transport Depot 2IC/Fleet Controller, you will support the Depot Manager in ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe day to day operations at our depot. This is a hands on leadership role with primary responsibilities for depot planning, scheduling and execution while also acting as second in charge.
You will be responsible for planning daily transport operations, optimising resources, and coordinating drivers, equipment and freight movements. In addition, you will provide leadership support to depot staff, ensuring plans are executed effectively, and step into the Depot Manager role as required.
Strong organisational, communication and people management skills are essential to succeed in this role.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Depot Manager in leading, managing, and motivating drivers, warehouse staff, and operational employees.
* Assist with ensuring compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
* Help oversee daily operations including dispatch, route planning, vehicle availability, customer service, and maintenance coordination.
* Act as the point of contact in the Depot Manager's absence, ensuring continuity of operations.
* Monitor operational performance and contribute to achieving key performance indicators (KPIs), including safety, communication, staff engagement, operational efficiency, cost control, and gross profit margin.
* Assist in maintaining high standards of customer service and resolving customer concerns promptly.
* Promote a team culture focused on communication, support, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Provide on the job coaching, guidance, and feedback to team members.
* Assist with staff rostering, scheduling, and addressing day to day workforce issues.
* Contribute to process improvements and operational initiatives in collaboration with senior management.
* Support accurate and timely reporting of operational, safety, and performance data.
Key Requirements
1. Ideally have 3–5 years' experience in transport, logistics, or depot operations, ideally involving fresh produce or frozen freight.
2. Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to support and guide teams effectively.
3. Strong understanding of transport operations, including dispatch, compliance, and vehicle coordination.
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
6. Confidence using depot management systems and Microsoft Office.
7. A proactive, solutions focused approach with a willingness to learn and step up when required.
Roster
* Tuesday to Saturday - 6:00am to 5:00pm or finish
Remuneration
* Salary package will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, the package will include a fully maintained company vehicle.
